Nikon was founded in Japan on July 25th 1917 as Nikkor, they were a leading producer of lenses for various companies including Canon! They produced lenses for various applications other than photographic as well, but most know them for the photograph application. Nikon didn’t really hit the main stream until the advent of the Nikon F. Once the Nikon F was introduced it really set the bar high for the 35mm film market as a very robust and dependable camera used by professionals and amateurs.
